Josie Maran Gift Sets

5Josie Maran products deserve a post of their own, their products are outstanding!  My first purchase was a gift set, the “Whimsical Wonder” from December, 2015.  I had no idea about the benefits of argan oil, I just thought the packaging was festive and I’d give it a whirl.  What a surprise to love every product in the gift set.  The 100% Pure Argan Oil Light  is good for all skin types, absorbed quickly in my sensitive skin and left it feeling hydrated and nourished.    The Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee in Pink Escape is a gel blush that feels cooling when applied on your face and leaves a sheer flush of color, natural looking.  After I blended a few drops of 100% Pure Argan Oil Light  into my moisturizer and applied it on my face, I then applied the Argan Enlightenment Illuminizer. When this liquid illuminator was spread over my face it left a healthy glow that brightened up my face.  I love it and usually wear the illuminizer without any blush.  It  absorbs quickly into your skin and blends beautifully.   I love this product!  Even though I am not a fan of liquid eye shadow I applied the Coconut Watercolor Eye Shadow in Beach Sand , it was highly pigmented, a lovely color, it went on easily, and I would probably wear this eye shadow if I was a few decades younger.  Finally, the set included the Argan Black Oil Mascarait is terrific!  This mascara is made of 100% Argan Oil mixed with mineral pigments that yield a 91% natural product that has a 24 hour wear.  I loved this mascara because I felt it conditioned my lashes and I used this as a primer for my all time favorite mascaraMaybelline the Colossal Volum‘ Express.  I am accustomed to a more intense lash look that I can achieve with my Maybelline mascara.  Since I replace my mascara every 4-5 weeks due to my fear of a bacterial infection, it is cost prohibitive for me to use a high-end mascaras.  Since all the products in this gift set impressed me, I purchased another recently!

The “Argan Enlightenment Illuminizing Trio” was the next kit I purchased.  It included three Argan Enlightenment products,  Argan Enlightenment Illuminizer that is part of the “Whimsical Wonder” and two others.  It is my understanding that all three products in this kit accomplish the same thing, but the format is different.  The  Argan Enlightenment Illuminizer is a creamy liquid that is applied all over,  while the Argan Enlightenment Illuminizing Wand is a creamy wand that is used to target the inner eye or any other part of your face, or just for an on the go touch up.  The Argan Enlightenment Illuminizing Powder Veil is a creamy powder that left a healthy glow but did cake on my middle age dry skin.  That’s the only reason I can come up with for not loving this powder.

All these products looked amazing on me, whether alone or combined with other products used to make my complexion glow and keep my skin hydrated at the the same time.  Powder is not something I usually wear, as I got older I steered clear of powders and have found success in liquid/creamy products.  I hope you enjoy Josie Maran products, especially since they are made with organic natural ingredients, and most importantly are cruelty free.

For the Love of Shoes!!!!!!!

Comfort Shoes for Summer

There is no longer joy in purchasing any type of footwear.  Since being diagnosed with RA, I have suffered with foot pain, swelling, and stiffness.  Shoes that I have worn no longer fit,  and my go to comfortable shoes bring me no more comfort to my feet.  For the past six months I looked high and low to find comfortable sandals, sneakers, and dress sandals for this summer.  The following is a description of the four pieces of footwear I purchased, and how the footwear has been working out for me.

ASICS Women’s Gel-Cumulus 17 Running Shoe-Love these shoes/sneakers.  They fit well and are comfortable.  The sneaker has great support to keep my feet from rolling.  I was able to get this sneaker in a wide width which allowed me to wiggle my toes, that sealed the deal.  I wear these sneakers all day (6-8 hours) with no problems.  I love them!

Taryn Rose Shoshana Slingback Wedge-This sandal is made with a stretch fabric with leather trim.  Even though it was a standard medium width, it was generous enough to fit me comfortably.  This is a well made sandal that I was able to wear for hours, and love that it can be dressed up or worn as a causal shoe.

Teva ‘Universal’ Flatform Sandal-Never was a fan of Teva sandals but when I saw the platforms and the gold straps I had to have them.  I was familiar with Teva knowing that they run large and the straps are adjustable, I never purchased another pair after the one pair I had worn out years ago.  These platform sandals are light weight and stable when walking.  They are truly a versatile sandal and many compliments have been received since I started to wear them.

Birkenstock ‘Arizona’ Genuine Shearling Lined Sandal-This sandal is like wearing your slippers with support.  The shearling lined sandal allows you hours of comfortable walking.  This sandal is light weight, flexible, and it absorbs shock.  Love’m!

I didn’t just end up with these four pairs of shoes, I spent endless hours trying shoes on.  I must admit I would prefer more stylish and feminine shoes but these are great substitutes.  The comfort and occasional compliments I receive makes me happy.  What really impresses me is the total comfort I have when I wear these shoes, and there are no residual problems by wearing these.  Be well!

Part 1-Gift Sets

In a few months I will celebrate the 3rd anniversary of my Rheumatoid Arthritis diagnosis.  After living for years in excruciating pain and being advised by doctors to seek psychiatric care, a simple blood test proved that I was not crackers.  At this point, I was on the road to better health and challenges associated with the disease and/or side effects of the medications I took.  There were so many things to straighten out and not being a very deep person, I focused on my physical looks first.  I knew my skin was dull, dry, & gray and I looked almost as good as what the cat dragged in.  To improve my outward appearance I purchased many products rated with 4-5 stars to improve my complexion and appearance, but was not successful.  Continuing on this path I would surely be broke in months if I continued to buy tons of products.  I thought about my teen years when money was in short supply and I would wait till Christmas or Mother’s Day to buy gift sets of new products to try, I thought this would be a good avenue to re-explore.  The gift set products has yielded successful results.  The first sets I purchased were:  First Aid Beauty Face Cleanse & Exfoliate , bareMinerals up close & BEAUTIFUL
The First Aid Beauty set was a $10 investment that included a 2 ounce tub of face cleanser and 10 facial radiance pads.  I loved the face cleanser mainly because it made my extremely dry and sensitive skin feel soft and clean.  Followed with the facial radiant pad that gently exfoliated my IMG_0462skin leaving it smooth and brighter.  This set is not only impressive for the results that it yields, yet contain no parabens, harsh chemicals, or colorants.

The bareMinerals up close & Beautiful 30-Day Complexion Starter Kit intrigue me.  I had previously used the bareMinerals Ready Blush in “The Indecent Proposal” (plum) and the bareMinerals Mavelous Moxie Lip Gloss in “Dare Devil” (blackberry) and loved the products.  Each morning for at least two weeks I applied the original foundation in the 4 steps that should have produced the look of bare skin with flawless coverage.  It just didn’t work for me!  I liked the way the product felt when I was applying it, but I really did not see the coverage this 50 something babe needed to look radiant, or produce a healthy looking skin.  I would never advise anyone to not buy this product, bareMinerals have proven to be a contender of cosmetics of value, just not for me with their foundation products.

Adopted Sleep Habits

Blog - 53For years my sleep habits were simple, go all day and night, and sleep when you no longer could keep your eyes open.  If I wanted to do something, I did, and made up for the missed sleep whenever I could.  I was always tired, yet ready to roll.  Then everything changed. I was tired and the joints in my hands and feet were killing me. I attributed my exhaustion and pain to lack of sleep and did not seek medical help until I could no longer stand my fatigue and pain.  After months of doctors’ visits I was finally diagnosed with severe RA.    The lack of sleep, pain, & medications took a big toll on my appearance and personality.   All the things in my life changed once I was diagnosed with RA and it has taken years to change my behaviors to accommodate my RA.  This is how I have addressed my chronic fatigue.

Eventually my body began to respond to the medication, my activity level increased, yet I was still fatigued. I was getting adequate sleep, yet I never woke up feeling rested and usually struggled either staying awake or alert during the day.  I had read that sleep deprivation can raise susceptibility to infection and aggravate rheumatoid arthritis, which was an eye opener!  As I have been doing for the last 2 years, adjusting my behavior to make living with RA more manageable, I had to change my sleep habits.

My sleep habits are simple adjustments I made to my nightly routine.  I go to bed and wake up the same time each day, including weekends.  I added walking the dog as soon as I’m up to my routine, instead of walking him at night.  The nightlight in my bedroom has been removed and I no longer go to bed with my iPad in hand.  I also drop lavender oil on my pillows before bedtime and use a deep-breathing exercise I learned in physical therapy.  All of these adjustments helped, but the most significant adjustment I have made is, decreasing my consumption of coffee and caffeinated drinks.  I do have coffee in the morning and limit how much I have at that time.  The rest of the day I drink water or  decaffeinated tea.  All these small adjustments have helped me sleep better, stay asleep, probably contributed to some weight loss, and helped me live my days with “flare”.
