1 (1)No one is immune to stress. Stress will wreak havoc on your body, mind, and spirit when you are well. So, having a chronic illness and experiencing stress, can be debilitating.

I have handled stress in many ways; some healthy ways and some destructive ways. I read about stress management and tried some of the suggestions. I’m not built for yoga, and meditation and I don’t gel. One suggestion that I thought would be great for me was to do something I love to do. Awesome, right? Not quite because I love to eat, buy expensive clothes, and travel, but none of those things reduced my stress.

Exercise is not one of my favorite activities, yet, walking has proved to be therapeutic. As I walk, I think about ways and things I can do that will help alleviate stress. Purposeful activities help me reduce stress. I may call a friend, and have a quick chat, or do something mildly physical and purposeful, like ironing. Yes, ironing!  Ironing is not a glamorous activity, but it does calm me and I accomplish a task that needs to be done. I like to think of it as meditation in motion-ironing out my thoughts and tense muscles.

What really has made a difference in managing my stress levels is the establishment of routines. This can be difficult to accomplish, but eventually is will become routine and yield calming results. When you structure your life and pre-plan the simplest activities you limit stress of the unknown. Taking control of your environment, interactions, and your future direction will certainly alleviate stress and fear of the unknown.

In future posts I will share some routines that I have found success with, and routines I am working on!

Desperately Seeking the Best Lip Products

Desperately Seeking Lip Products

Super dry lips sent me on a quest to find lip products that work!   These are a few that I have found success with this past winter, some drugstore brands and others high end!

The first on my list is, Yves Saint Laurent Volupte Tint-In-Oil, in Cherry My Cherie.  I don’t think I’ll ever be without this  light weight and non-sticky lip tint.  The beautiful color and shine leaves a natural clean look while deep hydrating my lips.  After the oil absorbed into my lips (approx. 2 hours), I was left with a light tint and well hydrated lips.  Another Yves Saint Laurent lipstick that I found works wonders on my lips is the Volupte Sheer Candy Lipstick in Cheris Desir.   Sheer Candy Lipstick is a sheer lipstick with remarkable coverage.  I find that when it dries on my lips, it leaves no residue, just smooth and moisturized lips.

I wanted to try a new drugstore product, I choose ChapStick Hydration Lock Day & Night.   This is a 2 in 1 product.  One side is used during the day and contains sunscreen and the other side is a night time application that replenishes your lips during sleep.  Excited to try this  product because I normally am not a believer in that the cost of the product determines how good a product is, but I had limited success with this product.  I really disliked the daytime waxy feel it left on my lips, the nighttime part did condition my lips, but after a few applications, I noticed that much of the product was lodged in the cap.  I never advanced nor withdrew the product, it became a problem with application.  The ChapStick would fall out of tube when applied with a slight amount of pressure.

At Rite Aid I’ve picked up many of the Almay Color & Care Lip Balm Liquid.  Just Plum and Cantalope are the colors I keep in the car and in work.  This lip balm is a great everyday product, it is smooth and non-sticky as well as soothing on the lips.  I usually will not go to the beach or bike riding with an expensive product that is why I buy drugstore, with no regrets.  The color choices are limited and they don’t seem to change.  It’s a great product at a great price.

Wanting to try an all natural product I chose Tata Harper Be Adored lip balm.  This is a rose tinted plumping and line reducing lip treatment.  It is a sheer shade that you can layer for more color, but it wasn’t enough color for me.  The lip balm felt wonderful on my lips and for that reason the next time I would purchase Tata Harper Be True  lip treatment, with color and use it at night.

For some unknown reason I continue to search for the best lip products even though I’ve been using one for the past 3 years, Dior Lip Maximizer.  This is not a lipstick or balm, according to Dior it is a “lip care system that boosts volume instantly and recontours over time, thanks to a unique blend of hyaluronic fillers that smooth, moisturize and leave lips irresistibly plump.” , and that’s the truth.  I absolutely love this lip maximizer that only comes in two colors, pink or beige sunrise.  I use pink, it leaves a slight hint of color, yet enhances my natural lip color.  It is suggested that this is a base to be used before lipstick or over lipstick for a plumping affect.  I’m going to ignore any print on this product because I do know I love it and it works for me, it will have to be an act of congress to make me stop using this product.

Chances are slim of doing something fun on a rainy Saturday morning! So……. Get dressed and head over to the…….!

Located on the East Side of Providence, the Clean Plate has everything you

could  want for breakfast, and oh so delicious!

You be the judge of how appetizing the food looks….

Believe me; Jeff enjoyed his corned beef hash waffle with eggs and hollandaise, and my eggs with ham, and rye toast was steps above ordinary!  What clenched my affection for Clean Plate has to be the mini pumpkin doughnuts with maple cream!  Ambrosia!

The pride of product shines through not only in the presentation, but especially in the meal!  Before leaving and braving the harsh weather my thoughts were consumed with my next visit and order of banana bacon waffle with maple blueberries!

If you ever find yourself in Providence, breakfast at the Clean Plate should definitely be on your agenda!

Essential Oils

Since being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, each winter there is a change in the appearance and texture of my skin.  Whether my dry skin is a result of the disease or from medications I take, it needed to be addressed.

Suggestions from friends,  I eventually purchased three products.  The first product was NUXE HUILE PRODIGIEUSE MULTI PURPOSE DRY OIL.  I was excited to be able to run to TARGET and buy it at a reasonable price, but the scent was a little strong for me.  It is not unusual that some products that I’ve used for years do not smell or feel the same since the addition of certain medications.

I was attracted to the TATA HARPER REVITALIZING BODY OIL that is 100% Natural & Non-Toxic and purchased it, even though it was rather pricey.  I applied after showering numerous times, it had a pleasant scent & felt great, but it didn’t have any healing effect on my extreme dry skin.

TAMMY FENDER BULGARIAN LAVENDER BODY OIL did the trick!  I got immediate results after the first application.  The lavender scent is calming, and it felt so good on my dry skin. I kept up with the application of the oil and there was an improvement in the texture of my skin as well as appearance.  I love it and intend to try more products of this line.
